A Short Description of the Film

Once upon a time in America, there were hundreds of small mines and thousands of hardened men who knew how to work them. Today these men, who kept their families fed on a little luck and a lot of hard work, are celebrated as the history of what made America great. But there aren’t very many of them left in America.

A Miner’s Luck will follow one of them to Bolivia, in search of something that looks like mining from his youth – a world in which hundreds of small mines nurture the ingenuity of thousands of hardworking miners. The epicenter of “Latin America’s turn to the left” seems a strange place to look for America’s roots. But in the small towns and mining centers of Bolivia, he finds families and communities with striking similarities to the mines he remembers from his youth.
